Newly formed Weed Action Piroa-Brynderwyns (Weed Action PB) is looking for a part-time coordinator. Following the example of the very successful weed action group set up by the Whangarei Heads community, a small group of people passionate about preserving our natural environments has started a similar initiative for the area from the south side of the Piroa-Brynderwyn hills up to Waipu.
Weed Action PB has two key objectives:
- to raise awareness within the community about the existence of weeds, how to recognise them, and the threats they pose;
- to remove barriers to action by providing information, tools and products to make control easier.
One of our first tasks is to appoint a local coordinator who can support community effort, be that individual landowners; small groups who want to target a prominent weed in their neighbourhood; schools who want to take on a conservation project; volunteers who want to participate in a larger community weed action event.
This is a fixed term contract for six months, with the potential for renewal, for approximately 10 hours a week. It’s a great opportunity for someone who likes to work independently and use their own initiative.
Anyone interested in this role should contact our Chairperson Gill Webb on gill.webb@activeplus.co.nz or ring her on 021 623 811.
