Kiwi Coast and Northland Regional Council are working together to hold the first ever ‘Total Pests Workshop’.
An introduction to plant pests will be covered in the morning, with a more in depth session in the afternoon. The animal pests part, in the middle of the day will be very much an introduction to basic traps and trapping methods for the most common animal pests that people want help with.
Mike Knight (NRC Biosecurity Officer – animal pests), Andrew Mentor (Kiwi Coast Mid North Coordinator) and Ngaire Tyson (Kiwi Coast Coordinator) will be there to talk about:
-
Kiwi Coast – what’s it all about and how can we help?
-
Basic pest animal behaviour and ecology
-
How to set traps such as Timms possum traps, SnapE rat traps and DOC 200 stoat traps
-
What common household items can be used to make really effective lures for traps
-
Tips and tricks for catching more pests in the traps you may already be using.
If there is sufficient interest we will follow this up with a dedicated Trapping Workshop later on in 2018.
Sara Brill (NRC Biosecurity Officer – plant pests) will be focusing on how to identify and control plant pests.
This is a free workshop, and lunch will be provided.
